Living in 40s style

In this job, we encounter a delightful array of unique, beautiful, and occasionally peculiar items. When John and Shirley Cottam visited our Messingham office to discuss their collection of 1940s furniture, radios, and a long case clock, we were immediately intrigued. However, nothing could prepare us for the enchantment of their period home.

As I approached their residence, it felt like stepping back in time to the 1940s. The ascent down the driveway revealed hints of something special: the rising sun motif painted on the garage doors and a captivating panel door featuring stained glass. These details set the stage for an extraordinary experience.

Upon entering, John welcomed me into a remarkable period home. Every aspect was meticulously preserved: the original light switches, charming wallpaper, elegant panelling, and period-appropriate ceiling lights all contributed to an immersive atmosphere. The clock adorning the wall and the antique coat stand were just the beginning of my journey.

John and Shirley proudly showcased a remarkable selection of period pieces, including an array of furniture, vintage radios, classic gramophones, early televisions, sewing machines, and even charming first aid boxes. The china cabinets and mirrors were nothing short of stunning, and the lamps added a warm glow to the ambiance. The kitchen remained true to its roots, featuring a stone sink, exquisite larder units, and a kitchen table with chairs in impeccable condition, along with period-appropriate tins and boxes adorning the shelves.

Upstairs revealed more vintage treasures—additional radios, breathtaking wall clocks, long case clocks, and period bedroom furniture, all contributing to the home's nostalgic charm. In the garden, the presence of an Anderson shelter added an authentic touch to this captivating retreat.

After discussing the items that will be featured in the auction with John and Shirley, we are thrilled to present a selection of remarkable period pieces. Highlights over the coming months include, a stunning folding mangle, a cabinet sewing machine, various cabinets and pieces of furniture, as well as lamps, radios, and an assortment of collectibles. This is merely the beginning; we look forward to featuring even more extraordinary period items in the months to come.

These items are ideal for any prop house, museum, or collector seeking to enrich their collections with genuine historical artifacts.
